I really love Spain and after being to Fuengirola my very positive opinion about Spain has only increased!
Fuengirola is a small town of about 60-70000 people situated about 30 kilometers south of Malaga on Costa del Sol. I didn’t know anything about Costa del Sol before but thought it would be touristic little place with rather crappy and crowded beaches (for some reason), but I was pleasantly surprised to find and town bustling with tapas bars and really long and nice beaches with plenty of room for everyone. Yes, at the beach it is touristc but if you go a couple of blocks from the beach you have wonderful bars and genuine Spanish restaurants (as far as I can tell anyway).
The prices are really good – you can get tapas and beer for 1 Euro each! Let’s just say the we gained a couple of kilos on this trip and leave it at that!
We stayed at Dominique and Lisette’s flat which is located smack in the middle of everyting – 5 minutes to the train station and 5 minutes to the beach. They share a 3 bedroom flat so there was plenty of room for everyone. We have a really, really nice time staying with them – they even cooked us dinner!
Noemi didn’t like the ocean at first, the water was freezing, but eventually wanted to play in the water. We had bought un umbrella trolly for this trip which turned out to work perfectly for her. She eats anything little Noemi and we fed her tapas, curry, calamari, prawns – you name it – and she ate it all. She’s such a good girl! Unfortunately this also means she eats sand, rocks, shells – you name it – which is a nuisance. But still, she such a good girl!
Chiquita also got a little bananas with the shopping and keeps telling me that she wished she had bought more since it was so inexpensive.
All in all we had a wonderful time and have both agreed that we will move there when we get older.
